Foundation Trophy - 29 October 2009

Unseasonably mild weather greeted Kenilworth's junior for the final 'major' competition of the year.  Cameron Koolhoven and Jacob Forster made the most of the favourable conditions to both finish with an excellent score of 42 stableford points, six under par.  A countback over the last nine holes failed to separate the two but it was Cameron Koolhoven who lifted the trophy by virtue of having had a better score over the last six holes.

In Division One, Matt Budd played well to score to 41 points, 5 under par, to take 3rd place behind Cameron and Jacob Forster..

Meanwhile, Callum Jeromson produced a steady round to take the honours in Division Two finishing ahead of Chris Armstrong.

The best gross of the day came from Rob Owens with a solid round of 75 to finish three shots ahead of Daniel Lane.

The Rankin Trophy - Monday 26 October 2009

Daniel Lane and Cameron Koolhoven, playing as a pair for the first time, produced some fine golf to emerge as the clear winners of the Rankin Tophy.  Despite dropping four shots over the last four holes their score of gross 75, nett 66 in this greensome medal was good enough to win by eleven shots.  A countback was needed to decide second and third place with Taylor McDonald and James Moffatt coming out on top over Jacob Forster and Matt Budd after both pairs finished with nett scores of 77.

September Medal - Sunday 20 September 2009

The first ever playing of the junior September medal didn't quite go to plan as a clash with a 1st team county fixture and corresponding course congestion led to a last minute switch to the par 3 course as the venue for the day.

Daniel Lane was the overall winner with a gross score of 75 for a nett 73.

Club Championship - 27 July 2009

Robert Owens proved the importance of consistent play over 36 holes to add the Junior Club Championship to the Men's Club Championship title that he won a little more than a week earlier.

An opening round of 76 left Robert Owens trailing Mike Antona by two shots after eighteen holes with Daniel Lane a distant third following a round of 83. In the second round Mike struggled to maintain his form and after a poor start slumped to a score of 79.  Meanwhile, Daniel was trying to recover lost ground and produced the best score of the day with a gross 73 to close the gap on the two leaders.  Ultimately, however, the day belonged to Robert Owens, a birdie on par 5 16th hole extended his lead to two shots over Mike Antona and although Mike hit back  on the 17th with a birdie of his own Robert held his nerve to sink a testing five foot putt on the final hole for a par to match his first round score of 76 and to secure the title by a one shot margin.

The best nett score of the day went to Bruce Fitzpatrick in Division 1 with an aggregate thirty-six hole total of 141, one under par, whilst Jakob Lane enjoyed the best nett score in Division Two with a score of 143.

Jubilee Trophy - 26 July 2009

Persistent rain for much of the round failed to dampen the ability of Kenilworth's junior golfers to produce some fine scoring on Sunday afternoon.

The day was dominated by Division 2 players and leading the way with a remarkable round of 83 playing off a handicap of 25 for a nett 58 was Daniel Simmons who finished four shots clear of the field.  Rees Herrod and Jimmy Bull both enjoyed nett scores of 62 with Rees taking second place honours by courtesy of a better score over the final nine holes.

In Division 1 Jacob Forster continued his good form this season to take first place with a nett score of 66 to finish one shot ahead of Matt Budd with Dom Butler claiming third place with a nett 70.

Daniel Lane's round of 77 was the best gross score by a margin of 4 shots from Rob Owens.

An strong field of thirty-one juniors made the most of the fine weather to produce some truly astonishing scores in the Jamie Elson Trophy.

Division 1 honours went to Rob Owens with an excellent level par round of 71 for a nett 66.  Jacob Forster produced a nett 67 to finish second with James Leggitt beating Daniel Lane to third place on a countback after both finished with scores of nett 69.

Junior Pairs Salver

Although a relatively small field contested the Junior Pairs Salver on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon some very good scores were still produced in this Greensome Stableford competition.

The best score of the day came from Kenilworth's Junior Captain, Taylor McDonald, and his partner James Moffatt.  Three birdies helped them on their way to a winning score with 42 stableford points.  Just one point further back was Callum Jeromson and Jakob Lane on 41 points - their failure to score a point on the 16th hole proving very costly.  James Leggitt and Dan Simmons were one of three pairs to finish on 36 points but took third place by virtue of a better score on the last nine holes.

Professional's Trophy - 10 May 2009

A well presented course and favourable weather conditions were always likely to produce some fine scoring for the junior's Professional's Trophy and it was Harry Fitzpatrick who really proved that low scores were achievable with an excellent gross score of 80 off his handicap of 16 making him a comfortable winner in both Division 1 and in the overall competition with a nett score of 64.

The runner-up In Division 1 was Lewis Barge with a nett score of 69 with Robert Owens securing third place on a countback from Cameron Koolhoven after both finished with scores of nett 72.

Daniel Simmons was the winner of Division 2 with a credible nett score of 67 to finish two shots clear of Ben Whidborne with Harry Moffatt in third place.

Kenilworth Junior Masters

The inaugural Kenilworth Junior Masters, held on Wednesday 15 April, saw 53 junior golfers, ranging in age from six to thirteen years old, from across the UK competing for the John Butler Trophy.

An early morning thunderstorm caused the start of the competition to be delayed by 20 minutes but more significantly left the course playing quite long as a result of the soft fairways.  Coupled with a strong wind for much of the morning, the conditions made low scoring difficult.

The best score of the day was a gross 78 from 12 year old Lewis George, a 6 handicap golfer from Crewe Golf Club.  Lewis was a shot behind home favourite, Daniel Lane, playing the last hole but Lewis secured a birdie on the par 3 eighteenth hole after a six iron tee shot left him a six foot birdie putt which he duly holed to finish seven over par.  Meanwhile, Daniel, playing off a handicap of 7, finished his round on the par 4 ninth hole where a visit to the greenside bunker resulted in a dropped shot for a round of 79.  Third place went to William Aldred, handicap 5, of Mid-Herts Golf Club who was a shot further back with a gross score of 80.

The best nett score was recorded by Kenilworth's Bruce Fitzpatrick who scored an excellent 41 stableford points (five under par) playing off a handicap of 18.

Start of Season Event - 15 March 2009

The 2009 season kicked off with the traditional start of season event on Sunday 15 March.  Consisting of a twelve hole competition over the par 3 course, putting challenge and snooker tournament it would have been nice to have seen the event better supported but those who took part certainly enjoyed themselves.

The main event, the par 3 competition, was played in two divisions with Rob Owens coming out on top in Division One with a two shot margin over Dan Lane.  Division Two saw the best scoring of the day with a countback required to decide the winner. Ben West narrowly triumphed over Matt Bull after both finished on a score of four under par,  nett 32.

A countback was also needed to decide the winner of the putting competition with Rees Herrod overcoming Dan Lane whilst James Leggitt was two shots adrift in third place.

  Winner 2nd Place 3rd Place
