Pairs Salver - Wednesday 23 February 2011
At the fourth time of trying we finally managed to get the 2010 Pairs Salver played with only a few weeks to go before the new season is upon us!
Four pairs were brave enough to face the elements on a wet and soggy afternoon during the half-term break. Considering the weather and the wetness of the course, the scoring was from all four pairs was very good but one pair showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels (or they would have done if not for the mud!). The new Junior Captain, Daniel Lane playing off 4, teamed up with nine year old Arnie James, off a handicap of 43, in this greensome format competition to produce a stunning round of 46 stableford points which included an eagle on the par 4 11thhole! Daniel and Arine enjoyed a nine shot margin of victory over runners up, Robert Owens & Dom Butler.
Foundation Trophy - Thursday 28 October 2010
A small field braved the elements on a chilly day with the course playing it's full length for the final junior competition of the season. As with so many of this year's junior competitions it proved to be a closely fought battle but in the end it was Rees Herrod whom triumphed securing the last piece of silverware of the year with a nett score of 69 beating Jimmy Bull by a single shot.
In Division 1 it was a battle between two of Kenilworth's longest standing juniors playing in their last junior competition at the club before joining the senior ranks next year. Alice Young emerged victorious with a nett 72 twith Robert Owens taking second place with a nett 74. Dom Butler's nett 77 was good enough to secure third place. In Division 2, Matt Bull shot a nett 73 to take 3rd place behind Rees Herrod and his brother, Jimmy Bull.
One of Kenilworth's future stars, Arnie James, continued to impress by taking the honours in Division 3.
Robert Owens, junior captain, carded a gross 76 to take yet another best gross of the day.

September Medal - Sunday 19 September 2010
With the arrival of Autumn comes softer fairways and receptive greens - normally, the sort of conditions which are better suited to the lower handicaps players. However, it was the the single figure golfers that struggled whilst those playing in Division 2 showed that they were capable of producing excellent scores even when the course is playing much longer.
On the day, it was Luke Northwood who continued his fine run of form with an excellent round of 87 off a handicap of 22 for a nett 65 to secure victory by just one shot over Jimmy Bull. Jimmy is another junior who has enjoyed a fine season and would probably have added the September Medal to his other successes this year had it not been for a 9 on the tricky 5th hole.
In Division 1 the scores were unusually high. The best score coming from Jay Underwood with a nett 73 off a handicap of 17. Cameron Koolhoven finished runner up with a nett 75 with Iain MacKay taking third position with a 78.
Matt Bull took 3rd place in Division 2 with a nett 73 to finish behind Luke Northwood and his brother, Jimmy.
Arnie James, demonstrated again that he will be one to watch in the coming years, by taking the honours in Division 3.
Rob Owens, produced a gross score of 80 which proved to be the best of the day.

Brothers, Matt and Jimmy Bull combined to produce a superb nett 63 to win the competition by two shots from thier nearest rivals. Second place went to Iain MacKay and Cameron Koolhoven after a countabck was required to decide the position after Daniel Lane and Arnie James also matched their score with a nett 65.

Junior Club Championship - 2 August 2010
Robert Owens successfully defended his position as junior club championship but only after the first ever playoff in the history of the championship.
After the morning round, it was evident that it was going to be a two horse race. Robert's morning round of 74 gave him a reasonably comfortable three shot lead over Daniel Lane who opened his challenge with a 77. Toby Inskip, playing in his first junior club championship at Kenilworth, was trailing in a distant third place following an opening 88. The afternoon round saw the tables turned when Daniel carded a 73 to close the gap on Robert leading both players tied on a thirty-six hole total of 150. In the four hole play off which followed, both players made pars on the opening three holes but on the final hole, the 10th, Robert missed the green to the right but chipped up to less than a foot to secure a par and to take the title after Daniel found the right hand bunker from the tee and failed to get up and down for par.
Full results to follow.
Dudley Taylor Medal - 1 August 2010
The start of the school summer holidays usually signals good scoring amongst the junior section and this competition was no exception.
Luke Northwood continued to show good form carding a gross score of 88 off his handicap of 29 for a nett 59. With that sort of score he might have expected to be the runway winner but Luke Hawkins had other ideas. His score of 95 off a handicap of 36 was good enough to equal Luke's score and so a countback was required to separate the two players. By the narrowest of margins Luke Northwood emerged victorious by virtue of a slightly better back nine.
Exceptional scoring was also evident in Division 1 with Rob Owens breaking par with a gross 69 to lead Division 1 with a nett 65 and scoop the prize for best gross as well. Lewis Barge was a couple of shots further back with a gross 84 off a handicap of 17 for a nett 67 with Toby Inskip a further shot adrift in third place.
Rees Herrod took third place in Divison 2 with a very credible nett 69 to finish behind Luke Northwood and Luke Hawkins.

Professional's Trophy - 18 April 2010
Conditions could not have been much better for the second junior competition of the year. Clear blue sky's and warm weather paved the way for a flurry of excellent scores, particularly from those in Division 2. Jay Underwood was the first to post what looked like a winning score when he signed for a gross score of 84 off a handicap of 20 for a nett 64. However, Jay's score was soon matched by Dan Simmons who carded an equally impressive gross score of 85 off his handicap of 21. Dan edged out Jay on a countback by virtue of an excellent back nine dropping just 4 shots. However, lurking at the back of the field was one of the youngest competitors, Luke Northwood, who showed what he is capable of with a stunning round of 96 off a handicap of 36 to record a winning score of nett 60.
The lower handicap golfers in Division 1 were never likely to be able to match the low scores achieved in Division 2 but there was still some good golf being played by Harry Fitzpatrick with a gross 80, nett 67. Bruce Fitzpatrick took second place with a score of 84, nett 71 with Daniel Lane in third place after a gross 77, nett 72.
For the second competition running, Division 3 honours went to Luke Draper. Luke's excellent round lead to a cut in his handicap of 8 shots - well done!
Daniel Lane's gross score of 77 was good enough to be the best of the day by a couple of shots from Rob Owens.

Kenilworth Junior Masters - 7 April 2010
The second Kenilworth Junior Masters, held on Wednesday 7 April, saw 60 junior golfers, ranging in age from just sevent to thirteen years old, from across the UK competing for the John Butler Trophy. Sponsored by the Golf Society of Great Britain, this is one of a series of six national events designed to offer boys and girls aged under 14 the chance to compete against their peers.
This year's field included some of the leading players in the country at this age group and, indeed, it was an England hopeful who was the runaway winner on the day. Thirteen year old Josh Thorley, of Broughton Heath Golf Club in Derbyshire, carded an excellent gross score of 72 to beat last year’s winner, Lewis George, of Delamere Forest Golf Club and Jevann Parmar of The Leicestershire both of whom were eight shots adrift after finishing with rounds of 80.
Ryan Church from Oxley Park GC returned the best nett score of the day with an impressive score of 43 points off a handicap of 30.

Easter Cup - 2 April 2010
The junior golf season got off to a soggy start with the playing of the Easter Cup on Good Friday. A smaller than usual field braved the weather to do battle over a course which was playing at full length due to the wet conditions. Although less than half the field managed to complete their rounds, those that perservered demonstrated that good scores were still achievable. The best of the day came from Ben Whidborne with a score of 88 off a handicap of 19 for a nett 69 and a two shot winning margin over Jay Underwood.
In Division 1, Dom Butler's nett score of 72 was good enough to secure first place with Rob Owens a shot further back after a nett 73 finishing well clear of Cameron Koolhoven in third place with a nett 78.
Division 3 honours went to Luke Draper.
Rob Owens secured the best gross score with a 77.
