De Montfort Qualifier

GOLFERS braved some horrendous weather conditions during the club's De Montfort qualifier at Crewe Lane on Saturday.

Alistair Giffen mastered the conditions and emerged triumphant in Division A with 76. nett 66, but required a better back nine to edge out Martyn Langston 78, nett 66.

They finished ahead of Chris Owen 80, nett 69, Peter Hall 77, nett 70, and Richard Keegan 76, nett 71.

Darren Watson came out on top in Division B with a sparkling round of 80, nett 64, which put him well clear of Adam Newbold 83, nett 68.

Mark Newbold 86, nett 71, finished third by virtue of a better back six than Ken Pavey 86, nett 71. They were followed by Michael Sykes 91, nett 74, who pipped John Hearne 90, nett 74, thanks to a better back nine.

Meanwhile, Albert McKay 78, nett 71, took the Division A honours in the seniors June Medal from Walter Hogarth 91, nett 75. They were followed by Alan Parker 94, nett 76, and Alan Donaldson 89, nett 76, who were separated by their back nine scores.

The Division B winner was Christopher Aldridge 96, nett 70, from John Evison 90, nett 71, Rob Dowell 96, nett 76, and Huw Jones 101, nett 76.

Kenilworth ladies held a team competition which was kindly sponsored by Mercia Carpets.

The waltzing stableford was won by Maggie Smith, Angela Guest, Jenny Saunders and Eileen Rafique who are flanked by Vicky and Ollie Pearman who own Mercia Carpets.
