The second Kenilworth Junior Masters, held on Wednesday 7 April, saw 60 junior golfers, ranging in age from just seven to thirteen years old, from across the UK competing for the John Butler Trophy. Sponsored by the Golf Society of Great Britain, this is one of a series of six national events designed to offer boys and girls aged under 14 the chance to compete against their peers.
This year's field included some of the leading players in the country at this age group and, indeed, it was an England hopeful who was the runaway winner on the day. Thirteen year old Josh Thorley, of Broughton Heath Golf Club in Derbyshire, carded an excellent gross score of 72 to beat last year’s winner, Lewis George, of Delamere Forest Golf Club and Jevann Parmar of The Leicestershire both of whom were eight shots adrift after finishing with rounds of 80.
Ryan Church from Oxley Park GC returned the best nett score of the day with an impressive score of 43 points off a handicap of 30.
