Following heavy rain on Monday 146 ladies from 37 clubs across 13 counties competed in the Spring Open on a very sunny Tuesday, 8th May.  This was a 3 ball alliance with 2 net scores to count. The winning team from Whittington Heath Golf Club held the lead from early in the day with an impressive 143 with just one of their members able to return for the evening presentation.

In 2nd place were two Kenilworth members, Liz Brown and Lyn Harrison  joined by Nicki Woodhouse from Stoneleigh Deer park with a score of 149.

Julie Windridge from Willesley GC was joined by Doreen Brown and Helen Lowe both from Scraptoft GC and came in 3rd with 151.

There were 8 ladies with a two during the day, winning 9 golf balls each and £402 was raised in the raffle to go towards the Captains Charity.

The course held up extremely well with all credit to the head greenkeeper Richard and his greens staff.

Greensome Cup played 15/17 April had a total of 32 teams taking part.  A very close contest saw the team of Veronique Lintin and Debbie Nicholls winning with a score of 35 points.  Runners up were Toni Shirley and Caroline Durbin with a score of 35 points missing out on first place on count back.  Third place went to Karen McKenna and Lyn Harrison with a score of 32 points.

This season’s Ladies Competition programme opened, in fine warm weather, with The Coronation Foursomes on 27^th March was won by Betty Galsworthy and Freda Blankley with 33 points, however the team of Liz Brown and Karen McKenna with 32 points go through as representatives of the club.

 On 31^st March and 3^rd  April 4 BBB Tankard and Ping Qualifier was played.  The team of Veronique Linton and Debbie Nicholls, scored 40 points as did the team of Sandra Melling and Christine Hurcomb.  By virtue of a better back nine the team of Veronique and Debbie will hopefully represent the club at Gainsborough Golf Club in September.

 Unfortunately the weather turned much colder for Weekend EWGA Medal played on 7^th April.  However, after some great play the  Silver Division was won by Toni Shirley ( 83 -16-67 nett), she also won Best Gross. Bronze Division was won by Michelle Morrison (117-36-81 nett.)

Similar weather was experienced for the EWGA Medal played on 10^th April.  Silver Division Winner was Judith Wells(89-16- 73 nett), she also won Best Gross.  Runner Up was Jackie Corby (92-17 75 nett).  Bronze A Winner Catherine Midgeley (96-21 75 nett) and Runner Up was Pauline Moyers (102-26-76 nett).  Bronze B Winner was Sue Draper (105-29-76 nett) and Runner Up was Cherry Matthews (117-36- 81 nett.)

The President’s Day Greensomes was very well attended with 38 couples taking part, enabling £114 pounds being raised for the Captains’ Charity.  On completion of their rounds,  the ladies arrived in the bar to a wonderful treat of a ‘cream tea’ which was generously provided by our President, Brian Melling, and he also organised some very nice weather for the day!
