Twenty five golfer’s from Kenilworth Golf Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Wales where Llandrindod’s Captain Andrew Mills and his team proved to be the perfect hosts.
Captain David Howe and his Kenilworth team made up from a variety of handicaps and ages! lost the match 9 ½ - 4 ½ and presented the famous old shield for the Welsh boys to keep at least for a couple of months when we have a chance to win it back when the return fixture is held at Kenilworth in September.
As always the weekend was about nurturing and progressing the unique relationship between the two clubs which has been growing for 65 years since the first match was played in 1947. Two past Captains and Presidents of their respective clubs, Bernard Davies and Bob Holland, stalwarts of the fixture, and great friend’s for nearly 50 years, attended as honorary guests and graced the occasion. Everyone’s wish was that the younger member’s of last weekend’s fixture will continue that spirit and forge their own long lasting friendships within the framework of our two great club’s.
Anyone that was there will never forget the spirit of the eve of match dinner and impromptu “community singing” in the Ridgebourne Inn. The sportsmanship and good humour that the 14 matches were played in, and the entertaining dinner afterwards.
A truly wonderful weekend in Wales!
