Charity Auction Dinner chez Sue & Mark Draper

For the Captains' Charity auction Sue & Mark Draper offered to host a dinner party for 8 people.  For various reasons the dinner has had to be postponed from the planned autumn date (perhaps the chip shop was closed).

Anyway, 2017 brought new opportunities and on 6th January the long awaited dinner took place at Sue and Mark's house - still festively decked out with the Christmas decorations - and what a dinner it was.

The 8 guests were welcomed at the door by the maitre d' (Mr Mark) who passed them through to the cloakroom attendants (Sue and Matthew).  Once the cloaks were out of the way the guests went through to the lounge where champagne cocktails (or champagne straight up) were served along with delicious hors d'oeuvres.

When the chef (Mrs Sue) announced that the meal was ready the guests were taken through to the dining room - with a brief stop en route to take a formal photograph as a record of the occasion.

The Sommelier (Mark) introduced the choice of wines for the 1st course and the chef described the meal (see below).  Thereafter the table staff (Matthew, Mark & Sue) provided excellent service throughout the evening.

A veil will be drawn over the details of the repast.  You had to be there to fully understand what a wonderful time was enjoyed by those present with exquisite food, sumptuous wines and sparkling conversation.  If you want to find out - bid for it next year (if the opportunity is offered again).

Suffice it to say that the evening concluded superbly in the lounge with a variety of post prandial drinks on offer.

Many, many thanks to Sue, Mark & Matthew for their efforts to provide such a great evening and for the resulting contributions to the Captains' Charity.

The menu was as follows

Double Baked Cheese Souffle  (fantastic)

Smoked Salmon & Avocado Shots (excellent)

Roast Loin of Lamb with garlic, lemon and mint served on a bed of spinach

together with Parmentier Potatoes and Glazed Carrots  (delicious)

Chocolate Mousse Cake or (and) Raspberry Pavlova Roll (heaven)

Cheese and Biscuits (not sure what you can say about cheese and biscuits)

The wine list as provided by the sommelier

Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2014

Chablis Grand Cuvee 2015

Beronia Rioja 2012

Vin Santo Santorini 2005

Grand Burge Barossa 10 year old Tawny Port
