Senior Mixed Open
Fifty two teams from thirteen different clubs competed in Kenilworth GC's Seniors Mixed Open on Friday 27th May.
John and Sue Wolfe made the most of local knowledge to amass 40 points and run out winners by three points.
Countback was required to determine the next five places with Kenilworth pair Albert McKay and Brigid Carrington taking the runners-up spot from Ian and Suzanne Hudson (Shirley GC), Richard and Gill Symonds (Kenilworth), David and Nina Noon (Kenilworth), and Tony and Gill Beasley (Hinckley GC) by virtue of a better back nine after they all scored 37 points.
Les Jones and Angela Guest (Kenilworth) completed the prize winners freame by finishing seventh with 36 points.
Tony and Anne Gilmore took the best front nine prize, while Malcolm and Jean Clarke were the best back nine winners
Kenil worth Cup - 15th August
CAMERON KOOLHOVEN lifted the Kenilworth Cup at Crewe Lane on Sunday 15th August..
He carded 77, nett 65, to finish one shot clear of the chasing field which was led by Martyn Rees 78, nett 66, Chris Satchell 79, nett 67, Les Allen 75, nett 68, and Kevin Bond 83, nett 69.
Junior champion Robert Owens posted the best gross score of 71, while Andy Collins 39, nett 32, recorded the best front nine and Gary Handley 38, nett 32, claimed the best back nine prize.
Men's Open Alliance - 8th August
James and Will Lamond used local knowledge to good effect to win the Men's Open Alliance on Sunday 8th August.
The father and son combination, both KGC members, emerged triumphant with an impressive nett 58 which put them three shots clear of the field.
Players certainly exploited some glorious conditions to record some exceptional scores, despite playing off threequarters of their handicap, with Barry Lemel (Kenilworth) and George Daniels (Ombersley) finishing runners-up after carding nett 61.
Arthur Baker and Mike Belson finished third with nett 62, just ahead of fellow Kenilworth duo Richard Keegan and Dave Matthews nett 63.
Fifth and sixth places were determined on countback after a host of pairings finished on nett 64 with Dave Walter and Adam Ferraro (Purley Chase) and Mick Remmington and Steve Hemmings (Glen Gorse) claiming the last two prizes.
John Chambers (Kenilworth) and Ian Stranks (The Warwickshire) produced the best gross score which was an outstanding eight under par 63.
The best front nine was won by Karl Green and Mark Williams (The Welcombe) with nett 30, while Phillip Stokes and Mick O'Neill took the best back nine prize with nett 30.
Mixed Open Competition
Golfers from 35 clubs entered the popular Mixed Open at the club on Sunday 11th July. But local knowledge of the course proved to be an advantage as Kenilworth GC members Toni Shirley and Alfie Cuffaro teamed up to good effect to lift the Kenilworth Bowl thanks to an exceptional round of 78, nett 61.
Breda Sutton (Stratford) and Kenilworth vice-captain Patrick Fleming 84, nett 65, finished runners-up by virtue of a better back nine than Kenilworth duo Sue Ford and Albert McKay 78, nett 65.
Countback was also required to settle the next three placings with Ken and Lyn Harrison (Kenilworth) 79, nett 66, edging out Lesley Gee (Shipston) and John Russell (Knighton) 86, nett 66, and Ron and Angela Guest (Kenilworth) 84, nett 66.
Jane Fitzpatrick (Copt Heath) and Rob Gregan (Robin Hood) won the best gross prize with 73, while the best front nine prize was claimed by Jane Bromley and Dave Causer (Redditch) and the best back nine was posted by Kenilworth duo Jeff and Karen Buckland.
Kenilworth Classic - 8th June
The prestigious Kenilworth Classic 36-hole, event which is generously sponsored by Bob Taylor, attracts some of the best amateur golfers from around the Midlands and Andy Sullivan (Nuneaton) came out on top by the narrowest of margins. Sullivan carded rounds of 70 and 69 for a total of 139.
Jean-Michael Hall (Whittlebury Park) came second with 69 and 71 followed by James Carney (Shirley GC) who came third with 72 and 69.
The best gross score by a Kenilworth member came from Elliot Forbes who carded 74 and 71, closely followed by Mike Antona, 73 & 73.
