The Warwickshire Boys Championship was held at Ingon Manor GC on Wednesday 27 July 2011 and Kenilworth GC were well represented with three boys featuring in the prizes.
In his last year playing junior county golf, Robert Owens produced two consistent rounds of 75 and 74 to finish in third place in the Boys Championship four shots behind the winner, Adam Lumley, of Coventry GC.
In the U16's category, both Daniel Lane and Iain Mackay were off the pace in morning after both recorded scores of 79 but recovered well in the afternoon with matching rounds of 74. Ultimately, this proved to be two shots shy of winning score set by Danyaal Spalding of Copt Heath who produced rounds of 76 and 75 to claim the U16's title. On count-back, Daniel Lane took second place ahead of Iain Mackay in third place.
In the team championship for the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup, a trophy which has been won by Kenilworth GC on no less than four occasions since it was first competed for in the year 2000, Covenrty GC proved to be too strong emerging as winners by a margin of just two shots over Kenilworth.
On Wednesday & Friday of next week, Robert, Daniel and Iain will be amongst eight boys who return to Ingon Manor to compete for the Warwickshire Boys Matchplay Championship. We wish all three of them the best of luck.
