The Winter League Dinner

Friday May the 4th (as in May the 4th be with you?) saw a small but extremely select group of winter leaguers congregate for the annual dinner and prize giving ceremony.  After a lively warm-up session in the bar the attendees enjoyed a 3 course dinner plus wine for the princely sum of -£5.

With Paul Hone officiating the speeches were kept to a minimum but were entertaining none the less; Paul's inimitable humour and gently sarcastic wit keeping those present suitably amused.

Golf balls were given out as the prizes for that days 9 hole competition and later awarded for the telling of jokes - none of which can be repeated here. It was noted that the prize-winners included last years, this years and next years captains - but Paul claimed that he hadn't fixed the scores in any way.

Prizes for the winter league results went right down to 10th place and were handed out in plain white envelopes.

Ian Baker and Steve Rhodes came 3rd last year but this year finished with a 100% win record to take the trophy.  In second place were Kevin Witts and Bob Harrison and third place went to Geoff Edmunds and Andrew Kennel.

Ian and Steve are shown below, receiving the trophy from Paul Hone.  In their winners' speech they thanked Paul for his work in organising the competition for another year and praised the work of the green staff for maintaining the course and particularly the greens to such a high standard despite the dreadful weather we have had.
