Kenilworth: Course open. trolleys and buggies permitted.
Liz Clarke has once again organised an excellent couple of days away for Kenilworth members. The sun shone on the 40 golfers as they arrived at The Portal Hotel for coffee and bacon rolls on day 1. There were also 4 non-golfers who were able to enjoy the spa facilities and local shopping.
The first day of golf on the Championship course set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside was a team event with 2 to count on each hole. Team prizes were presented after the evening meal as well as men's and ladies' nearest the pins. Following the meal Mark Draper organised a few fun team games (thankfully we were in a private dining room) which started with a fun show game then included a treasure hunt - there was a lot of lipstick, charades and passing golf club diaries - you had to be there!!
Day 2 started with a leisurely breakfast and a wander in the grounds before driving to our second course, just 5 minutes away. The field had been divided into two teams, Teresa Wright had organised the golf competitions, - Red Tomatoes & Green Peppers and each member given a coloured ribbon to wear. This was a Better Ball Match play format on an even hotter day. As the teams arrived at the 18th green the crowds watched and applauded their team members and waited for the result. The Green peppers had a convincing win and were presented with a green pepper trophy as well as a bottle of wine each.
