Christmas Draw Night Extravaganza

It was prizes galore at the December Draw Night as a merry throng of members and guests celebrated the last draw night of 2018.

As well as the prizes for the regular raffle - for this evening various beverages and a Christmas Hamper were on offer - there were some extras to add to the fun and merriment.

First up was the Christmas Sweater competition. There were lots of special sweaters at the club with those who offered themselves up for judgement shown below.

Vice Captain Liz Clarke presented a bottle of bubbly to the competition winner - Maureen McIsaac

Lauren, Sammie and Stuart entered into the spirit of the occasion with their wonderful Christmas outfits

Following the judging of the Sweater competition the regular draws took place.

Winner of the 51 Club Draw - with a prize of £205 - and present on the night to collect the cheque was Sharon Featherstone.

Captain Chris Peake (or should it be Lord Peake in his ermine cloak?) presented the cheque to Sharon

The £700 free draw followed and with such a large prize on offer at such an expensive time of the year there was a lot of hope and expectation as the names rolled round and the colours flashed on the TV screen.  Was this the moment when the bank balance could be dragged out of the red?  The clubhouse was almost buzzing with so much wishful thinking taking place - but it was not to be.

The name of Gill Butler was in the prize winning box but Gill was not in the clubhouse to collect the prize - so it is a rollover and £800 will be on offer when the next draw night takes place in chilly January.

However - that was not the end of the evening's prizes on offer.  As well as the prize draw there was a Christmas Bonus Box - £100 - which had to be won on the night.  All of those present were entitled to be in the draw and we knew that someone would walk away with ten tenners.

Captain Chris Peake presided over the draw and the winning ticket was pulled out of the hat.  There was a pause - nobody shrieked with joy - and then the beginnings of the glow of hope again - perhaps the person with the winning ticket had gone home and there would be another chance ...  But then - from the upstairs gathering the winner came to the door and down the stairs waving his ticket.  John Emerson - a 20 year member - was the lucky winner and collected his winnings from the Captain.

John was happy to take a handful of tenners from Lord Peake

So - that's it for 2018.  Your next chance to win the free draw prize will be Friday 18th January.

Other forthcoming events include the New Year's Eve party at the club - the date will be published in the diary.

In January 2019 there will be a Sportsman's Night with Geoff Miller on Thursday 17th January and a Quiz Night two weeks later on 31st January.

We wish you all a very merry and peaceful Christmas - and a happy new year.
